What’s considered a dental emergency?

Many patients wonder if the pain they feel merits as an emergency. We would say that if you experience any of the following symptoms or situations to give us a call right away:
  • Severe pain or toothache
  • Swelling gums with or without pus
  • Loss of permanent teeth (whether they fall out naturally or are knocked out accidentally)
  • Damaged teeth due to an accident (large tooth chips, cracks, etc.)
  • Loose or broken dentures, crowns, implants, and other tooth restorations
If you’re still unsure about if you are having a dental emergency, give us a call anyway to verify with Dr. Ross.

When should I go to the ER for a dental emergency?

Most cases of tooth pain won’t require a trip to the emergency room. However, if the pain is so severe that it’s affecting other parts of your body, if you can’t control excessive bleeding, or if extreme swelling is affecting your breathing, go to the ER or call 911. Otherwise, our emergency dentist can resolve most issues right here in our office. In fact, Dr. Ross has been featured for triaging patients during the COVID-19 pandemic to keep them out of Pueblo County’s emergency rooms and urgent care centers. He uses some of the latest and greatest technologies to provide patients with quicker treatments that offer amazing results. With his advanced training in hospital-setting dentistry, Dr. Ross is more than qualified to address many dental problems that end up in the ER.
Food’s texture, temperature, and taste are crucial elements that people miss with traditional dentures. But snap-in dentures supported by four implants give back the enjoyment and ease of eating again. Talk with Dr. Ross about the other advantages that may make snap-in dentures perfect for you!
